MP3-Tag Generator is a free full-featured application that you can use not only to “generate” MP3 tags, but also to edit and delete them, or to change their format. It will also allow you to build new M3U playlists for your music and to edit existing ones. If you wish, you can also use this tool as a player, provided that you have WinAmp installed in your system.
The program supports full ID3v1x tagging, allowing you to view a comprehensive amount of data, both about the music itself and about the technicalities of the MPEG file. Thus, on one side you will have information about the artist, the album, the genre, etc., and on the other side, you will learn about the size of the MP3 file, the number of frames, the size of each frame, the bit rate used, its copyright status, and so on.
None of the so-called “technical fields” are editable, but you can certainly make changes in any of the fields directly related to the track (including the possibility of adding a musical genre, and a comment). You can either edit each track individually or create and edit specific formats. With these you will be able to apply patterns to the name of the tracks, and to include as many fields as you wish. You can also perform massive character conversions in the names of the tracks, such as changing the current case into upper, lower, or proper case.
All these features will certainly help you have your MP3 collection neatly named and organized. The whole application is fairly easy to use, though it is advisable to apply massive changes cautiously.
